As a child, Stolting dabbled in sports like T-ball and soccer, but contact sports were admittedly never her thing.
"I would run around and then when I got to the ball, I didn't know what to do," Stolting said.
By middle school, she took off running.
"I feel like I kind of learned how to be a runner," Stolting said. "When I would run in middle school, I felt like I didn't have a grasp of how to train. I didn't have a grasp of how to race. And that carried over somewhat into high school because old habits die hard."
But Stolting credits Maclay coach Gary Droze and her teammates with helping her train properly and get her pacing down.
Injuries slowed Stolting down during her sophomore cross country season. It wasn't until that spring's track season when Stolting said she started getting back into the swing of things.
Stolting was in a groove by her junior year, when she also made the All-Big Bend first team, running a season-best 18:12 at the FSU Invitational. She finished fifth overall at the Class 1A state meet in Dade City with a time of 18:22.
Stolting placed third overall at this year's state meet with a time of 17:51.60, but didn't stop there. At the Foot Locker South Regional on Nov. 28, Stolting recorded a personal-best time of 17:51, finishing 17th overall.
Always a fan of the west coast, Stolting has committed to run for the University of San Francisco.
"I'm really excited about that," Stolting said. "The academics and the running seemed to fit, and I wanted to be in a big city. I'm definitely going to miss everyone on my team.
"I feel good about my high-school career, but I don't look at it as a door closing as much as one opening."
